So the Bears beat the Packers yesterday. 21-10. All is right in the world. I'm sure God was glorified in that outcome.
Is there a better possible way to begin a blog posting that by stating the fact that the on-again, off-again Chi-town Bears pulled through for one amazing upset of a game? And that the masses were not disappointed to see that the biggest rivalry in the league is still thriving? And that this season's hopeful Superbowl champs have a big, fatty of an "L" next to their name? I think not. Blessed day, I say. (Note: I wore my "Friends Don't Let Friends Be Packer Fans" t-shirt one day last week and got reamed no less than 4 times by separate individuals, claiming that the Bears were doomed to suffer a humiliating loss over the weekend. I'm proud to say that Kalee is sporting HER "FDLFBPF" shirt today. What a family.)
Wowey, my whole weekend was filled with one glorious moment after another. That might be a bit of an exaggeration, but still, I had a great weekend.
I don't think I have ever been as excited to be at home as I was on Friday afternoon. I left campus within 15 minutes of my last class ending, and the ride home was so relaxing. I definitely crooned along with James Taylor, and listened to "Country Rode" 3 times in succession. It seemed to fit.
Dad and I went to the Taylor/Northwestern football game on Friday night with Megan Stout and Brad Hoener. I think those 2 kids are hilarious. Despite the cold weather (wearing flip-flops to a football game is almost never a good idea. I should have remembered that, but oh well), we had a good time. After-game activities included pizza and TV at my house.
I did some quick shopping on Saturday morning with Mom, and then spent the afternoon at several different parks and at “The Hobbs” with Andrew. It was so nice outside! I love it that he can walk again. It’s kind of weird thinking that for a few months, he just sat around. Oh, and he drove too! Woo!
Later that evening, I walked in from a quick errand to Lowes to find Mom, Kalee, Bizach, and Ryne Fager all cooking dinner together. It was quite the eclectic meal. Mom needed to go to the grocery so there wasn’t really enough of any one thing to feed the fam, let alone 2 other 19 year-old guys who could eat us out of house and home. Dinner consisted of chicken salad, Spanish cheesy rice, taco salad, a macaroni and cheese type of dish, and hotdogs. And Ryne loaded everything up into one big pile on his plate. He probably should have eaten with a shovel. I offered him one.
The plan of the night was for me to hang out with Ryne and Kalee, but she fell asleep on the couch soon after dinner was over, so Ryne and I watched the Notre Dame football game on TV. Highlight of the night: Ryne decided he could probably like the back of his thigh like Snickles was doing, so he tried it on the couch. Very funny. He’s also, like, 6’6”, so his enormous frame added to the hilarity of the situation. Our relationship is neat in that even though we went to high school together and had mutual friends, I never considered spending time with him until last spring. I think I missed out on some quality friend-time. Live and learn.
Sometimes I think that this semester is going to be best lived from weekend to weekend. Dang it, life is in the everyday monotony of it all! Ugh, I hate to think that I’d stoop to the level of discontentment because I am being stretched. And holy mother, am I ever being stretched! This semester will, in all likeliness, be very tough. If the past week and a half are any indication of the times to come, I sort of feel in over my head. This is why I was so excited to get off campus and spend time reveling in the beauty of my home. The end.
